Vale of Glamorgan is a county in the south of Wales, UK. The county is bordered to the north west by the county of Bridgend; to the north by the South Wales Valleys, to the east by the City of Cardiff; and to the south by the Bristol Channel. The county has an area of 129 square miles (335kmē) and has a population of 124,000. The geographical features of the county include the Glamorgan Heritage Coast that stretches for 14 miles from Aberthaw to Porthcawl with plunging cliffs, tiny secluded coves and breathtaking views; the Vale itself is characterised by green rolling hills with historic towns and pretty villages. The principal towns and villages include Barry, Cowbridge, Penarth, Llantwit Major, Aberthaw, Boverton, Dinas Powys, Ewenny, Lavernock, Llandough, Llansannor, Ogmore, Ogmore-by-Sea, Rhoose, St Andrews Major, St Athan, St Donat's and Ystradowen. The housing stock of the Vale of Glamorgan ranges from smallholdings, detached properties with land, and traditional stone country cottages in the villages of the Vale to brick terraced houses and semi detached houses in the larger towns of the Vale of Glamorgan. The Welsh language is spoken by 11.3% of the population of the Vale of Glamorgan.
