Denbighshire County is located in the north of Wales,UK. The county is bordered to the west by the counties of Conwy and Gwynedd, to the east by the counties of Flintshire and Wrexham, to the south by the mid-wales county of Powys and to the north by the Irish Sea. The county has an area of 326 square miles (844 kmē) and has a population of 97,000. The main geographical features of the county are: the River Clwyd and the pastoral Vale of Clwyd that run from north to south; the rolling hills of the Clwydian range to the east; and the often bleak Hiraethog moors to the west. The major towns are to be found along the coastline (Rhyl and Prestatyn) and smaller market towns are strung out along the fertile Vale of Clwyd (Rhuddlan, St Asaph, Denbigh, Ruthin) with the popular tourist resort of Llangollen in the valley of the River Dee to be found in the south of the county, seemingly stuck on to Denbighshire as an afterthought. The property stock of Denbighshire ranges from traditional stone cottages under slated roofs in the rural Vale of Clwyd to the victorian properties on the seafront at Rhyl. But Denbighshire is also blessed with more than its fair share of historic Welsh properties with ancient churches, historic town houses and medieval castles to be found in the old market towns of the Vale of Clwyd. The use of the Welsh language (26.4% of the population are Welsh speakers) varies considerably throughout the county with the rural areas of the Vale of Clwyd having a much larger percentage of Welsh speakers than the coastal towns of Rhyl and Prestatyn whose residents are mostly English speaking.
