Conwy County Borough is located in the north of Wales, UK. The county is bordered to the south and west by the county of Gwynedd, to the east by the county of Denbighshire, and to the north by the Irish Sea. The county has an area of 436 square miles (1,130kmē) and has a population of 111,700. The main geographical features of the county are the River Conwy, the Conwy Valley and the mountains and lakes of the Snowdonia National Park of which one third lies within the county. The major towns are to be found along the coastline or along the banks of the River Conwy. These include, from east to west, Abergele, Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, Conwy, Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechan and heading south down the Conwy Valley, Glan Conwy, Trefriw, Llanrwst and Betws y Coed. Properties range from smallholdings and detached farmhouses with acres of land to semi detached and small terraced houses in the town centres. Marina developments are springing up along the Welsh coastline and Conwy County is no exception with Marinas at both Conwy and Deganwy on the banks of the Conwy River. The property stock of Conwy County ranges from traditional stone cottages and farm-houses under slated roofs in the rural heartlands to the large victorian seafront properties and hotels in the holiday resort of Llandudno..... and Conwy County has its fair share of very large Welsh properties with the medieval castles of Conwy and Dolwyddelan being situated within the county boundaries! The use of the Welsh language (30% of the population are Welsh speakers) varies throughout the county, and one could say that the use of the language and indeed the appreciation of Welsh culture increases in proportion to the increase in distance from the coastal strip. For example the coastal towns of Colwyn Bay and Llandudno have 20% of residents who speak the language, whereas in Cerrigydrudion some 25 miles (40 km) from the coast as many as 76% of residents are Welsh speakers.
